Lux Zakari and Finale!
I like having guests; it’s kind of like having a party. Everyone comes to see what’s going on, hopefully leaves a message or two for Lux and comes back often to visit the blog. Another stop on their path of blog hopping.
Thanks for joining us today Lux!
1) Tell us a bit about your new release, Finale.
Absolutely. The premise:
When music legend Jonathan Levant dies in a motorcycle accident, no one is more stunned than his former lover Olivia Gray, a hedonistic ex-celebrity who learns she’s been inexplicably named the guardian of his children. Olivia’s reluctant acceptance of the new parental role obliterates her hope of resurrecting her songwriting career as she faces sarcastic teenagers, suicide attempts and séances. The upset to her self-indulgent life forces Olivia to finally face the truth about the cruel decisions of her wild past, her now uncertain future and her secret, turbulent relationship with a man who, even in death, continues to upend her world.
Finale was released August 15, 2011, and can be found/bought by clicking here.
2) You have quite a body of work. What do you find draws you most to write?
It’s so hard for me not to write. It’s like I can’t help myself. I’m perpetually jotting down fragmented ideas and pieces of conversation that I intend on immortalizing in some way at some point in time.
I think, though, what really propels me to write is love. I want other people to fall in love with the ideas and thoughts I’m in love with and value so much that I have to create a whole fortress around them – I have to put them in the context of an actual story so they outlast me. I’m big on preservation and I hate forgetting, so writing helps me with that.
3) What else do you have in the works?
At the moment, I’m subbing a friends-becoming-more story with a bondage twist. I’m also working on releasing a book of my own and doing my own cover art and all that. I’m looking forward to the challenge!
4) Do you own an ebook reader or read on an electronic device? If so, what?
I currently do not own an ebook reader; it is only recently that I’ve been finding time to really relax with a book again. I’m still also pretty old-school when it comes to books – I like to physically turn the pages, display it on a shelf…
On a similar note, a friend and I were recently having a conversation about how the next generation of people will be a generation that doesn’t actually have or own anything but access to certain files. That generation will be unable to identify the experience we had growing up when we were picking out a CD or a book in a bricks-and-mortar location and the exquisite wait we had to endure before we were able to listen to/read/enjoy it in anyway. It’s odd for me to look back fondly on that considering that I am an impatient person who believes that the occasional moment of instant gratification is what keeps us hopeful. But there is something to be said for the youthful anticipation and truly having something.
That being said, I’ve always been a couple years behind in regards to technology. I didn’t even get an iPod until a few years ago; I was still rolling around with a Discman. My clunky phone flips open and can’t access the Internet, and I even still own a Nintendo. I’m sure I’ll join the ranks of the Kindle owners someday – it’s just a matter of when!
5) As a romance/erotica reader, what sort of stories do you personally prefer?
I usually gravitate toward stories about relationships that are clever and hot, but recently a friend brought a copy of A Game of Thrones on vacation with us, and I kept wandering away with it. It’s not my typical fare, but I think I might be hooked. I definitely need to snag my own copy. Not only am I looking forward to learning how the story pans out, but in true lemming fashion, I’m excited to read something others are reading; we can all be riled up about it together.
6) What’s your favorite guilty pleasure?
As apparently confirmed by all the normal people I meet, it seems that everything I enjoy is a guilty pleasure – it’s all a bit too geeky, too immature, too kinky, too freaky, too over the top…but I sort of like that about me.
7) Any vacation or appearance plans this summer?
I’m stunned that summer is almost over – I feel like it’s barely begun! I was just in New York for Harbor Fest antics, and I foresee more weekend and day trips springing up throughout the rest of the year, although the destinations are currently unplanned. I’ll let them be a surprise to even me.
