After living a checkered past, and despite an avowed disinterest in domesticity, multi-published erotic romance author Anya Richards settled in Ontario, Canada, with husband, kids, an adorable pup and a cat that plots world domination, one food bowl at a time. Her slightly darker alter-ego, Anya Delvay, emerges occasionally to write erotica.
Interested in all things historical and hysterical, Anya describes herself as intensely curious, (although the word ‘nosy’ has been bandied about) and a life-long people-watcher. Using what she’s discovered about people, places and various weird and wonderful things, Anya has written contemporary, historical and paranormal/fantasy romance novels, novellas and short stories for Samhain Publishing, Ellora’s Cave, Cleis Press and Spice Briefs.

For Claire Montjoye, widowhood is no release from scandal. Used as sexual currency by her notoriously libertine husband, she longs for a life of quiet respectability. But the ton’s disapproval ensures she will never be truly accepted—and any man openly seeking her company will be tainted.
When Xavier Westbourne pulls her away from peril, his touch fills her with yearning for unattainable dreams. Accepting his invitation to the opera is not only unwise for him, but dangerous to her lonely heart. But perhaps taking him as a lover will be enough.
Scion of one of Society’s most upright families, Xavier knows propriety as a cold, brutal master. Having endured one loveless marriage, he refuses to repeat the mistake, even for his motherless son. Yet Claire easily breaks through his wall of reserve, and her offer of private instruction in the sexual arts is irresistible.

Excerpt Two:
Instinctively, Claire reached out and stroked his back, feeling the way the muscles moved and reacted beneath her palm, offering comfort, even as her simple gesture caused a wave of longing to flood her body. He was obviously a complex man, yet she found it a simple thing to understand this about him, to read into his words the pain and doubt his marriage had caused. The coldness of his voice hid heat, and passion.
His wife’s rejection had made him think he was unlovable, unwanted.
But she wanted him, oh, how she wanted him! And he had, wittingly or unwittingly, offered her the chance to have him, if he would have her in return. The idea had sprung fully formed into her mind as he spoke and had taken easy root within her. She would offer him an education in lovemaking, which would serve him and his new wife, when he took one, well.
Fingers tracing the ridge of muscle alongside his spine, she felt it flex as he straightened slowly in his chair and turned to look at her, face impassive, yet watchful.
She had been alone so long.
Here was a chance to feel the warmth of another, enjoy passion again, and eagerness to take the opportunity fate had presented fired her courage. Perhaps it would be courting heartache but, oh, the memories she could store away for when he was gone, married to his new wife. Claire drew in a deep, steadying breath, and threw caution to the wind.
“We are not allowed to know our bodies when we are young, to grow comfortable with them, touch them for ourselves and find what feels right for us, and what feels wrong. Instead we are told it is sinful.”

Xavier watched as Claire laughed softly, and the silvery sound went in his ears and, somehow, made its way straight to his groin. He had been semi-erect from the first moment she touched him, but that breathy, tinkling sound made his penis granite hard. A rosy hue was visible on her cheeks even in the low light of the box, giving her countenance unmistakable warmth. The smile lingered on her lips and he wanted to kiss, ravish, it off her face. It took great effort to concentrate on what she was saying.
“I am a clergyman’s daughter, if you can believe it. Sins of the flesh. If I had a penny for every time I heard that phrase when I was growing up, I would be a far richer woman today.”

Excerpt Two Question: What is Claire’s father’s occupation?

Exile Scavenger Hunt

Today I welcome Muffi Beyer. She’s here to tell us about her new release Exile and a little bit about herself.

I like having guests; it’s kind of like having a party. Everyone comes to see what’s going on, hopefully leaves a message or two for Muffi Beyer and comes back often to visit the blog later.

Thanks for joining us today Muffi!

 i.          Tell us a bit about your new release. I’ve been writing for film and television for a lot of years. Exile was originally a script I still had the rights to, and it occurred to me it would make a good novel. So I pulled it out of my “trunk” and used it as an outline for Exile the novel. Since I was working as a producer on The Real World, a reality show on MTV, I wrote during lunches and on the train to work. It kind of flew out of me and was a great break from my “day job” at the time. Exile is my first novel, save for a couple of other novels I wrote right out of college, which were terrible, so I’m not going to count those.

ii.          Where do you get your ideas? For example Life experience, fantasies, experiences and fantasies of friends, etc. Well, like I said, I’ve worked in Hollywood for my entire writing career so most of my “ideas” have been assignments which usually have very little to do with what I want to write. However, I have written some original television pilots and screenplays and those come from all over the place. I wrote one screenplay about a Norwegian assassin whose family had a long, proud tradition of murder dating back to the Viking days. My family is Norwegian, so I had some good source material… I won’t say much more about that. Dreams are a big source of inspiration for me. And of course, everyone I come in contact with is fodder for my twisted mind. Matter of fact, my daughter shows up in a big way in next trilogy. So, don’t hang around me unless you want to see yourself in my work. Just a warning.

iii.          What do you find draws you most to write? Ahh… everything. Especially now that I’ve committed to doing only my own material. I love the library… me and the homeless have a blast. I love dissecting human nature—people’s motivations and behavior are endlessly fascinating to me. I love words… I’m sort of a geek about words. I love the freedom of  being inside my own head. I love it when a story is really rocking and it feels like what I’m doing is automatic writing rather than trying to figure out what words to put down on a page. It’s like having a sewing circle with all these wonderful people inside my head without being called crazy… but I guess that depends on who you ask.

iv.          What else do you have in the works? I’m finishing up the first book of a paranormal romance triology coming out in summer called Jeni and Rae, inspired by my eldest daughter. I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but every teenager  I’ve ever encountered can be an angel one minute and the next minute they’re so annoying and moody you want to ring their necks. It occurred to me all teenagers have a Jekyll and Hyde complex. So I embraced the idea and designed a whole subspecies of humans with this “gift.” It’s a very dark and snarky series with an underbelly of sweetness. I’m really excited about it. This is the kind of thing that just dropped on my head out of nowhere when I was walking on the beach with my Italian Greyhound and husband. Go figure.

 v.          How do you name your characters? Any special tricks? Oh my God, I hate naming characters. If you’ve got a trick will you please tell me? At the moment I find myself going through my kids’ school rosters with very meh results.

vi.          Do you own an ebook reader or read on an electronic device? If so, what? Yep. I have a Nook, but if I did it over again I’d go with a Kindle. More choices.

vii.          As a romance/erotica reader, what sort of stories do you personally prefer? I love fantasy. I love stories where the character’s motivations are complex but real and clear. And who doesn’t love a tear jerker? In terms of the sex, sorry, for me if you’ve seen one penis you’ve seen them all… the same goes for reading about them.

viii.          What’s your favorite guilty pleasure? I’m never guilty about pleasure. Life’s too short.

ix.          Any vacation or appearance plans this year? Girl, I’m writing. That’s my vacation! Me and my homeless posse at the library. Whoop, whoop!

 10)  What would your readers by very surprised to learn about you? I was a therapist for a couple of years after my stint as a soap opera writer—I went back to school for my masters in Marriage, Family, and Child Therapy. But I don’t know if that is very surprising. Let’s see, surprising would be I’ve climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, I’ve swam with a whale shark, I’ve got six toes on my left foot, I once sang for the President, I can name the breed of every dog I see, I directed Mylie Cyrus’ first kiss, I went through three labors without pain meds… Well, actually that’s seven very special things and only five of them are true, and one isn’t that special really… you can guess which ones they are.

For details on Exile and Muffi Beyer’s upcoming Jeni and Rae please visit www.muffibeyer.com

Okay, let’s address the name before everyone starts going nuts on the Muffi thing. My grownup name is actually Kim Beyer-Johnson and it’s the name I’ve used throughout my film and television career. But now, since I’ve thrown caution to the wind and ditched that career and jumped into writing novels full time, I’ve decided to go back to my Muffi roots.

Thing is, when I was growing up my name wasn’t Kim, it really truly was Muffi. My dad “nicknamed” me that the day I was born and I was Muffi all the way through college. I know, I know, Muffi has horrendous shades of preppidom and seems incredibly vapid, but here’s the thing…

Muffi is the person we all were before the shoulds and shoudn’ts grabbed us by the throats and squeezed the life out of us. When we were still Muffi we weren’t worried about acting all appropriate and climbing business ladders and social ladders and regular ladders so we could wash the dirt off our houses so they’d nice shiny for the neighbors. Muffi isn’t weighed down with money problems or kid problems or husband problems or what-do-I-look-like problems.

Muffi has fun. Muffi does things just for the hell of it. Muffi likes being weird and outrageous. Muffi doesn’t give a flying “f#ck about stupid dumb boring things that stress us out and usually never happen.

Muffi rocks! I claim the Muffi.
